WHAT ARE NASA FELLOWSHIPS & SCHOLARSHIPS?

NASA provides fellowships for individuals pursuing or planning to pursue graduate studies leading to masters or doctoral degrees in NASA-related disciplines at accredited US universities. This funding opportunity is open to students pursuing advanced degrees in STEM, specifically in areas of projected deficiencies in the NASA STEM workforce.

Fellowship candidates submit independently conceived research proposals that are responsive to a research opportunity posted in a fellowship solicitation.

NASA awards scholarships to undergraduate students pursuing an associate or bachelor degree in the nation's high-need, NASA-relevant STEM disciplines. NASA supports learners pursuing majors that meet the workforce needs of the nation and NASA's four mission directorates: Aeronautics; Human Exploration and Operations; Science; and Space Technologies. Award scholars pursue undergraduate STEM studies at their respective campuses during the academic year under guidance of their Faculty Research Advisor. Each student is also paired with a NASA researcher who serves as the scholar's NASA Technical Mentor. Scholars are part of a professional learning community that supports their growth in academics, technical research skills, enhances their understanding of the research processes, and expands their professional network. NASA Scholars are guided through the development of a NASA-relevant Capstone Research Project throughout the academic year. During the summer, scholars complete the Capstone Research Project under the mentorship of their NASA Technical Mentors at a host NASA Center.
